The Cobra Yamabushi Years

We had all been crime partners in the art world after some corporate espionage cobra went on line making shirts. Why not roll both operations into one consolidate and expand?

John, Adam, D.O.B., Ezra and I set up operations at ubiquitous 1408. My brother Jon moved to ATL to go to school so after we all converged on Asheville and blew up a little bit we each split.

Back in Baltimore I got a cheap pad across the street from 1408 and went to work on new designs and getting cobra yamabushi on the map. We made some ghetto catalogues and flooded Phish shows the shirts were going out on tour again.

At cobra yamabushi we each had our own personal stable of designs and shared the work and responsibilities. I got my car stolen but I got a lot of work done finally finishing some larger works that had taken years to complete.

Yamabushi Origins - 1999 Catalog DetailI was deeply in love and having your crew right across the street was great, but Asheville kept calling me back the foundation was there. After six months I moved back convincing John and Adam to come too.

Eventually renting a ranch house on the west side we set up on the porch and printed shirts for rock band Sector Nine sound tribe and sent more shirts on more tours. The three of us had distinctive styles and encouraged each other to push our limits. Back to The Yamabushi Manifesto
